We have officially entered the low season for tourism here in the tourist areas of Mexico. The low season begins at the end of August and extends until late November.

During this time of year, there are noticeably fewer people on the beaches and in the restaurants. I fact, many restaurants will even close for a few weeks so their employees can get a well-deserved vacation.

The best thing about the low season — at least from the perspective of two retirees living on a budget — is that the prices for lodging drop considerably. Many hotels/resorts also offer locals-only discounts once their occupancy drops below a certain percentage.

From now until almost Thanksgiving, we will be taking advantage of these great deals — and the lack of tourists — to enjoy everything that Mexico has to offer.

Although I plan on bringing my laptop with me and writing about some of the highlights of our trips, there will be many days when I don’t even turn it on. That means that it may take a little longer for us to respond to emails from our readers, but don’t worry — we’ll get to them mañana.

Those readers who are familiar with Mexican culture will understand that last line.

Well, that’s enough writing for today. It’s time to head to the nearest beach and enjoy the day!
